Sanford, ME – This month, the Partners Bank Employee Donation of the Month program selected Cindy Greenlaw, Assistant Branch Manager of the Limerick location, to choose an organization to receive a $1,000 donation from the Bank. Greenlaw chose the Kiwanis Club of Standish for the donation.

“I chose Kiwanis Club of Standish because their mission is volunteering to improve the world one child and one community at a time,” Greenlaw said.

The name Kiwanis derives from the Algonquian Native American language family and means “we build,” an appropriate name for an organization that is known for their global volunteer service to help children all over the world. There are over 14,000 clubs in 85 nations, including seven clubs in the southern Maine area (Division 4): Lewiston-Auburn, Portland, Saco River Valley, Sanford, Scarborough, Standish, and Westbrook.

While each local Kiwanis Club serves their community in different ways, the Kiwanis Club of Standish collects donations for existing programs aimed at helping the community’s children:

• They donate to the BackPack Program at local schools, a program that fills backpacks with food and gives them to children experiencing food insecurity
• They are involved with Stuff the Bus, held in the beginning of December.
• The Lions Club and Kiwanis Club ask for donations of food and whatever someone would like to donate for families that are in need.

Kiwanis International raises $390 million annually, and its volunteers accumulate more than 7.7 million hours of service. As one can imagine, trying to help the world’s children requires a diverse range of supportive programs, including health and nutrition to education and literacy. Each cause is connected to other causes; when one improves, other causes are positively impacted.
