Ogunquit, Maine – Sitting atop a small hill at Narrow Cove in Maine is a beautifully designed museum that is home to thousands of art pieces from across the span of American history. The Ogunquit Museum of American Art (OMAA) became a significant addition to the community in 1953, and Partners Bank is helping future generations enjoy the art by donating $10,000 to the museum and becoming an Exhibition Sponsor.

OMAA was founded by Henry Strater, who was a part of the Lost Generation of expatriate American authors and artists who lived in Paris during the interwar period. With the help of local artists and community members, the museum rapidly grew and featured select works by artists associated with Ogunquit’s famous art colony of the early 20th century. The museum hosts a collection of important paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and photographs from the late 1800s to the present, and OMAA is devoted to the exhibition, preservation, and interpretation of all their works.

OMAA features five exhibitions for this year, and Partners Bank will be the sponsor of one of these exhibits, “The Architect of a Museum.” This exhibition not only works to remind and inform museumgoers of the museum’s history, but it also dives into the architect who designed the modernist building, Charles Worley, Jr. drew inspiration from international architects such as Le Corbusier and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, which is evident in the museum’s geometric shape. This exhibition features blueprints of the original foundation and a selection of artworks that represent the first OMAA art collection.

Partners Bank has proudly sponsored OMAA for the past several years and is passionate about maintaining and preserving these prominent artworks. This sponsorship will keep the love of art alive in Southern Maine.

OMAA will open for their 71st season on Friday, April 12. Visit ogunquitmuseum.org for more information.
