Sanford, ME – Partners Bank is proud to announce that its August Employee Donation of the Month was awarded to the York County Community Action Corporation (YCCAC) thanks to the selection of Credit Analyst Eric Gadbois. Through the Employee Donation of the Month program, Partners Bank donates $1,000 to a nonprofit of the selected employee’s choosing.
Gadbois chose YCCAC because of the vital role it plays in improving the lives of York County residents.
“YCCAC offers a number of valuable services to communities in the county including family programs such as coaching, childcare, and WIC (Women, Infants, Children). Other programs include medical, dental and behavioral health, fuel assistance, transportation, and home ownership and repair,” said Gadbois.
His choice was also deeply personal. In 2019, YCCAC helped his mother with much-needed home repairs that she otherwise could not have afforded.
“After becoming fully disabled more than a decade ago, she was on a fixed income with little to spare,” Gadbois explained. “As her health deteriorated, she needed several repairs and accommodations to her home, including a new roof, heat pumps, wheelchair ramp, and bathroom redesign with handicap-accessible entry and shower. YCCAC provided a 5-year forgivable loan and organized the entire renovation. They truly were a life saver. Sadly, my mom passed away last year, but I always told myself if there was an opportunity to give back, I would remember their miracle.”
Founded in 1965, YCCAC works to alleviate the conditions of poverty and promote self-sufficiency by offering essential services in health care, housing, transportation, education, and more. The organization serves thousands of individuals and families throughout York County each year.
YCCAC was created because of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. The Act was created to combat poverty. At a local level, Community Action Agencies were created to operate the local War on Poverty. These Community Action Agencies were located in economically and socially depressed neighborhoods. Their outreach workers sought out residents who needed help.
Today, YCCAC steps up and takes those who need help under their wing. Their support ranges from helping people heat their homes in the winter, to helping them get to work because they don’t have transportation—or from Gadbois’s experience, improving the quality of life for a man’s elderly mother.
Partners Bank’s Employee Donation of the Monthly program empowers employees to direct charitable contributions to causes that matter most to them. Each month, a different employee is selected, and the Bank donates $1,000 to the nonprofit of that employee’s choice.
