Sanford, ME – These days, it seems that the cost of food is very volatile. Some weeks, we have a ho-hum experience at the grocery store register. Other weeks, we hesitate to swipe our debit card during checkout because the total has skyrocketed. This unpredictability leaves some families wondering if the shelves in their refrigerator will be fully stocked from week-to-week or if they need to remove items from their grocery list to stay within budget, causing anxiety and stress.

Thankfully, we live in a community in which we look out for each other during difficult times. The South Berwick Community Food Pantry is an organization that serves the 7,000-8,000 people in town and distributes food to those experiencing food insecurity. To aid in their service, Eric Walker, Market Manager of the Partners Bank York Office, selected the South Berwick Community Food Pantry to receive a $1,000 donation as part of the Bank’s Employee Donation program for the month of April.

“Every dollar helps [the pantry] feed families that need it the most. It’s a great feeling to be part of something like that!” Walker said.

The nonprofit relies solely on volunteers to operate. These volunteers are tasked with picking up and delivering food donations, sorting supplies, setting up for distribution, and more. Along with food items, the Food Pantry also collects pet food, toiletries, kitchen items, and cleaning products donated by caring community members.

With this donation from Partners Bank, the South Berwick Community Food Pantry can purchase $1,000 worth of groceries and household items, which is about a month’s worth of groceries for a family of four. This donation, part of the Employee Donation of the Month program, exemplifies the role of Partners Bank as The Bank That Listens® by listening to the wishes of its employees and the community.
